Cinnamon Buns with Cream Cheese Frosting

Updated: Aug 11, 2022

I remember the reason why I learned this recipe, it was mainly for my dad who LOVES cinnamon buns, especially when we go to the city where he never fails to ask my mom to buy him a piece of even the 6 piece one, if he's lucky.

Since we lived in the province, the cinnamon shop that he loves wasn't there and so he had to wait for about every 2 weeks before he can get a hand of it so when the pandemic started, you can feel that he actually missed them and so he asked me one day to try to make them.

After a lot of failures and trials, this is by far one of my favorite recipes that I made myself, if I'm being honest! It's not that hard and it's delightful to eat for breakfast or as a snack or even as a dessert!

HOW LONG IS THE SHELF LIFE?

  • Shelf life, when put in the fridge, can last to up to 8 days.

  • If put in the freezer, shelf life can last up to 30 days, although it's more preferred to put in the freezer when it's not baked yet. To bake, just add an additional 10 minutes if not defrost or 5 minutes if defrosted.

HOW TO STORE THEM?

  • In an air tight container either in the fridge (baked) or the freezer (unbaked).

Cinnamon Buns with Cream Cheese Frosting

Makes: 16-Piece Cinnamon Buns

Ingredients:

For the Buns:

❑ 1 Cup of Milk (Room Temperature)

❑ 1/4 Cup of Melted Butter (at Room Temperature)

❑ 1/4 Cup of White Sugar

❑ 1 1/4 tsp of Active Dry Yeast

❑ 2 to 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour

❑ 1 tsp of Salt

For the Filling:

❑ 3/4 Cups of Softened Butter

❑ 3/4 Cup of Brown Sugar

❑ 2 tbsp of Cinnamon Powder

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

Directions:

STEP 1: Combine the milk, melted butter, white sugar and yeast. Let it rest for about 10 minutes to feed the yeast some sugar.

STEP 2: Add in ONLY 2 CUPS OF FLOUR to the mixture and reserve the rest for the kneading later.

STEP 3: Add the salt and mix them up.

Don't worry, it's going to be a really sticky for now :).

STEP 4: Let it rest for about 1 hour. The size should double.

STEP 5: While resting, make the cinnamon filling by combining softened butter, brown sugar and cinnamon powder together. Mix until well-combined and set aside.

STEP 6: Once the dough has rested, add your remaining flour to the dough and transfer it to a clean surface. Gradually add more flour as you knead to prevent it from sticking to the counter. Kneading takes about 10 minutes.

Once the dough isn't sticking anymore and when you poke the dough, it bounces back, then you know it's ready.

STEP 7: Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape and about 1/2 inch thick. Put the cinnamon filling in the dough, distributing it evenly.

STEP 8: Roll the dough up and make sure it's secure before cutting it into equal pieces.

STEP 9: Transfer your cinnamon rolls to an oiled pan. Cover it and let it rest for another 15-20 minutes.

STEP 10: Preheat your oven to 350°F.

STEP 11: Once rested and the oven has preheated, put your pan of cinnamon buns in the oven.

Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown in color.

STEP 12: Once out of the oven, add your cream cheese frosting. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before cutting and serving!

ENJOY! :)
